Rob ZombieRob Zombie. Musician, director and artist. From the name alone You likely already guessed why hes here, the horror! From the terrifying use of spikes, teeth and eyes to the very bright, contrasting colors used in live shows and music videos alike everything about him me. Most of my drawings are very eye assaulting, either being extremely saturated when monochromatic or only made up of contrasting colors. These are both based around his work, and my prominent use of wide crazed eyes and sharp teeth can also be traced back to him. Taking simple objects, like cars, and then turning them into nightmarish things is what he does, and what I want to be able to achieve.
I firmly believe that without the jarring work of Mr.Zombie my whole artistic outlook wouldn't be anything like what it is. There would be way less contrast, gore, vibrance, “oddness” and yes, horror. It's for that reason that I am as interested in his work as I am, for how much it inspires me in all its multimedia glory. |

DOOMOften credited to be a major player of the popularity of video games. Originally created in 1993, the basic plot of doom revolves around a lone marine, revenging the death of his rabbit by killing demons from mars? I was exposed to DOOM at a very young age, and something about these gory yet beautiful artwork that makes up the game spoke to me. Pictured here are various screenshots from the DOOM: Eternal Artbook. The combinations of monster and machine is what inspired my own individual project, and the rough "painted look" are things I try to emulate in my own work.

Mike MignolaMike Mignola is most famous for his illustrations for the 1993 comic, Hellboy.
The comic is as dark as it is humorous, but its main draw is the striking art style that Mignola has managed to create. To me, this is what I base my whole art form around. I focus on harsh character design, with strong shape language and pitch shadows that are made up of straight angles and a jagged feel. All pictures pictured here are pieces from the Hellboy Comics that I believe best demonstrate this. |
